There’s something about Japanese taxis that I just love.
Sitting in the back is a very comforting experience. No doubt this feeling is just what Toyota intended: one of the most popular models used for taxis in Japan is the Toyota Crown Comfort.
In my experience, drivers are almost always older men. Most of them wear masks.
Many of the drivers don’t wear glasses - until you need to show them something on Google Maps. Then they (hilariously) don their spectacles, study your destination carefully, and sound out the name of the street in Japanese. Then you’re off.
After paying, I always fall into the same trap when I get out. I try to close the taxi door myself - but this is a big no no as taxis have automatic doors. An otherwise positive interaction is spoiled by a taxi faux pas!
All images in this post shot on the Ricoh GRIII. Above is a rare (for me) black and white edit - the image was shot at ISO 12,800 and I thought it looked better this way.
See you next time!
Cheers
Matt
Japan taxis also got my attention and love! I documented it on film :)
