I’ve taken photos of shotengai - covered shopping arcades - on my last 3 trips to Japan.
It’s quite common for them to look like this - the windows in the roof lets natural light in.
Quite often shotengai are a window into Showa-era Japan, with many signs and shops dating back decades. I love the Yamaha clock in the photo above.
These are great places for people watching - and for photography.
This gentleman was having a snooze. I love that he has 1000 yen notes in his top pocket.
Often there’s interesting shop facades and signs too.
